I FIORI NELL'ANIME DI GOLDRAKE: LA PRIMULA SILVESTRE GIAPPONESE (ARTICOLO DI SUZI; VERSIONE ITALIANA E INGLESE)

Nell'ep22 di Goldrake, Actarus indica un bellissimo fiore a Mizar, e dice che è un simbolo di vero coraggio: infatti, emerge dalla fredda neve bianca coi suoi petali viola, brillanti e vistosi. Ho faticato molto a identificare questo fiore, ma la mia carissima amica Gerdha e la sua parente acquisita giapponese sono venute in soccorso, spiegandomi che è il fiore Sakurasou. E' la primula dei fiori di ciliegio, il primo fiore di ciliegio che fiorisce nell'anno, anche in piena neve. Sakurasou è il suo nome giapponese. Non c'è da stupirsi che io abbia fatto una bella fatica ad identificare questo fiore, perchè è sconosciuto al di fuori del Giappone ed è stato riscoperto solo di recente dai giardinieri occidentali interessati. Si tratta di un fiore originario delle foreste e dei boschi del Giappone per secoli, sin dall'era Edo (che equivale grossomodo al 1600-1800).

Il nome "Sakurasou" indica il suo periodo di fioritura e la sua stretta somiglianza coi fiori di ciliegio (appunto "sakura" in giapponese).

Questi fiori spuntano sulla terra all'inizio della primavera, sotto forma di ciuffi, proprio come i fiori dell'albero di ciliegio. Il suo nome in Kanji è scritto così: 桜 草 e il primo ideogramma, 桜, significa "ciliegio", mentre l'altro, 草, significa "erba, pascolo". Quindi "Sakurasou" significa "l'erba dei fiori di ciliegio" ed è una pianta nota per usi medicinali. Fiorisce da fine febbraio-inizio marzo fino alla fine di maggio. E' uno dei primi fiori primaverili che illuminano gli ultimi, grigi, residui dell'inverno. Inoltre, l'ep22 fu trasmesso in Giappone proprio il 29 Febbraio del 1976, cioè durante il periodo di fioritura del Sakurasou. Questo fiore ha molte varietà: bianco, rosa, malva, viola. Oltre al Giappone, si trova anche in Cina, in Corea e in Russia.

Il significato di questo fiore mi lasciava perplessa. Nella maggior parte dei siti web si dice che il Sakurasou simboleggia il desiderio, la disperazione e l'amore duraturo. Oppure la giovinezza, l'amore giovanile, la grazia, probabilmente a causa dalle origini latine del nome "primula" che significa "primo fiore". La parente giapponese di Gerdha, invece, ha detto che simboleggia l'inizio della giovinezza e della tristezza: cioè il primo amore e la scoperta del proprio destino.

Eppure nessuna di queste affermazioni suggerisce che questo fiore simboleggi il coraggio, come accennato nell'ep22, che ha come titolo originale "Il coraggio di un fiore". Tuttavia, tutti questi significati sono nascosti negli eventi dell'episodio e, a loro volta, dimostrano il "coraggio" di questo fiore che ha ispirato Actarus due volte nell'episodio. La giovinezza di Banta, combinata con il suo desiderio e il suo amore disperato per Venusia, gli fa sfidare Actarus. E Actarus avverte tristezza mentre suona la chitarra, ricordando l'amore duraturo del pianeta, la sua terra natale.

Actarus non risponde alla provocazione di Banta, anche quando lui gli getta la neve in faccia. Rimane sereno e rifiuta di affrontare Banta, e non solo fisicamente, ma anche a parole, e continua a suonare la chitarra.

Solo quando Mizar si arrabbia contro Actarus per non aver combattuto contro Banta e si allontana, Actarus, stupito per la sua reazione, nota il Sakurasou nella neve. È stato un momento di scoperta e di riflessione su ciò che aveva capito da quella piccola bellezza. Si avvicina al fiore, ipnotizzato e sopraffatto dai propri pensieri. La voce di Alcor lo sorprende, come se si fosse appena svegliato da un sonno profondo, ma non risponde alla domanda dell'amico.

Successivamente, Duke Fleed ricorda quel fiore durante il combattimento contro il mostro di Vega. Ispirato dal coraggio dl fiore, insiste nel combattimento finché non trova il momento giusto per andare sottoterra, per poi emergere dalla neve dietro il mostro, proprio come il Sakurasou, e sferrare poi il colpo mortale con l' Alabarda Spaziale. Alla fine, Actarus spiega a Mizar il vero significato del coraggio del fiore. Dice che il vero coraggio è qualcosa di simile a ciò che fa questa pianta: era rimasta dormiente nel terreno, fino al momento giusto in cui ha trovato la forza di spuntare facendosi strada attraverso la neve per emergere con dei bellissimi fiori.

Il Sakurasou, infatti, richiede una particolare combinazione di fattori ambientali adatti per crescere: il tipo di terreno, il clima fresco, il grado di ombra, ecc. Senza questi fattori non fiorirebbe. In un certo senso, il vero coraggio è come il Sakurasou in molti modi. Non si tratta di impegnarsi in conflitti fisici o verbali con gli altri per mettersi alla prova, ma piuttosto di combattere contro le proprie avversità e sfide interne, mentre si esplorano le opportunità per crescere ed evolversi come essere umano e persona, emergendo alla fine con bellezza e grazia, proprio come il Sakurasou.

GRENDIZER'S FLOWER: PRIMULA SIEBOLDII/SAKURASOU - ENGLISH VERSION

There was a beautiful flower that appeared in episode 22 of Grendizer hailed as a symbol of bravery emerging from the cold white snow with its bright pink showy petals. It taught Daisuke a lesson in true courage and he in turn passed it on to Goro later. I struggled in identifying the nature of the above flower but my dearest friend Gerdha and her Japanese relative came to the rescue guiding me to the Sakurasou (the cherry blossom primrose) as it is known in Japan. No wonder I struggled because this flower has only recently become known outside Japan by interested gardeners whereas it has been a native of Japan’s wilderness and woodlands for centuries since the Edo era.

The name Sakurasou is indicative of its blooming time and close resemblance to cherry blossoms.

The Sakurasou flowers emerge in clumps on the ground in very early Spring just like the Sakura on cherry trees. Its name in Kanji is written as 桜草 and it is worthy to note that 桜 means cherry (sakura) and 草 means grass, weeds, herbs, pasture. So it basically means the cherry blossom herb. It is a fully edible plant and is known for various medicinal uses. It blooms from late February/early March until the end of May and is one of the first Spring flowers to brighten the residual grey of Winter. It is worthy of note that episode 22 was aired in Japan for the first time on 29/02/1976 suggesting the flowering time of the Sakurasou (very late Winter/early Spring). It has many varieties blooming in various colours such as white, pink, mauve and purple. In addition to Japan, it is also naturally found in Northern China, Korea and Russia.

The meaning of this flower in Hanakotoba puzzled me. In the majority of websites it was stated that the Sakurasou symbolised desire, desperation and long-lasting love. Other sites stated that it meant youth, young love, and grace, probably derived from the Latin origins of the name “primula” which means first. Gerdha’s Japanese relative said that it symbolised beginning of youth and sadness, first love and exploration of fate. Yet none of these statements suggest that this flower symbolises bravery and courage as hailed in episode 22. Even the Japanese title of the episode was 花一輪の勇気 (The Courage Of One Flower).

Nonetheless, all these meanings are hidden in the events of the episode and in turn demonstrate the “courage” of this flower that inspired Daisuke twice in the episode.

The youth of Banta combined with his desire and desperate love for Hikaru made him challenge Daisuke to a physical fight. Yet, Daisuke was engulfed in sadness playing his guitar remembering the long-lasting love of his lost homeland Planet.

Daisuke didn’t respond to Banta’s provocation even after he threw snow on his face. He was graceful and composed in his refusal to engage with him even verbally, and continued to play the guitar.

Only when Goro became angry and walked away astonished of his response he stopped and it was then that he noticed the Sakurasou in the snow. It was a moment of discovery and exploration of what that little beauty held. He approached it mesmerised and overwhelmed with his own thoughts. Koji’s voice surprised him as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep, yet he didn’t reply to his query.

Later in the episode we see Duke remembering this flower during the fight with the Veghan monster. Inspired by its courage he persisted in moving forward until he found the right moment to go underground then emerge behind the monster from the snow just like the Sakurasou and deliver the killer blow with the Double Harken.

At the end of the episode he explained to Goro the true meaning of bravery in front of this flower. He said that true courage was something similar to what this plant did, as it remained dormant in the ground until the right moment when it found strength and pushed its way through the snow to emerge with beautiful showy flowers.

The Sakurasou indeed requires a particular combination of environmental factors to grow such as type of soil, cool climate, degree of shade, etc. Without the presence of these factors it would not bloom.

In a way, true courage is like the Sakurasou in many ways. It’s not about engaging in physical or verbal conflicts with others to prove oneself but rather to fight one’s own adversities and challenges while exploring opportunities to grow and evolve as a human being emerging with beauty and grace just like the Sakurasou.
